Members of Thames Mark Master Masons Lodge No. 1183 in Henley—many of whom are also part of RTTV—travelled to Bicester on Friday 17th April to take part in the second annual Mark Masons Darts Championship. Five enthusiastic representatives from Henley made the journey to the oche, ready for an evening of friendly competition and camaraderie.
The lodge was well represented across the doubles teams. Master Elect Bro Dave MacDonald paired up with W Bro Stan Crooks, while W Bro Darren Morris-Spruce teamed up with his husband, Bro David Spruce. Completing the Henley lineup, W Bro Allan Dishington joined forces with visitor Jackie, who proved to be a natural talent—impressively scoring several 25s despite having never played darts before.
As the evening unfolded, it was the pairing of Dave MacDonald and Stan Crooks who emerged victorious, bringing the trophy home to Henley. Their performance drew admiration from fellow competitors and spectators alike, showcasing a level of skill few had anticipated.

Beyond the competition, the event provided a valuable opportunity for members from Mark Master Masons lodges across Oxfordshire to meet, socialise, and strengthen the bonds of friendship that lie at the heart of Freemasonry. The evening also supported the Mark Charity, adding a charitable dimension to the enjoyment.
Reflecting on the event, Bro David Spruce commented:
“It was a fantastic evening all round. The standard of play from some of the members was genuinely impressive, and there was plenty of laughter along the way. It was even suggested that a few of those present might have held their own on Bullseye! More importantly, it was a great chance to come together, support a good cause, and enjoy each other’s company outside of the usual lodge setting.”
Guests were treated to a generous buffet, kindly provided by W Bro Nick and his wife Jackie, which added to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the evening. With spirits high and new memories made, the Henley group set off for home at around 10:30pm, reflecting on a thoroughly enjoyable alternative to a quiet night in front of the television.

Events like these highlight the sociable side of Freemasonry, demonstrating that it is as much about friendship and shared experiences as it is about tradition.
