The Masonic Centre will be open on:
Saturday 12th September 2026 – 10:00am to 3:00pm
Sunday 13th September 2026 – 10:00am to 3:00pm
Admission is free and visitors of all ages are welcome.
Discover What Happens Behind the Doors
For many people, Freemasonry remains something of a mystery. Heritage Open Days provides a unique opportunity to step inside the Lodge, explore the building and meet Freemasons from a variety of different Masonic Orders in a relaxed and informal setting.
Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Temple and associated rooms, learn about the history of the building, and ask questions about Freemasonry and its role within the local community.
Members from a number of Masonic Orders will be present throughout the weekend, including:
Craft Freemasonry
The Royal Arch
Master Mark Masons
Royal Ark Mariner Masons
Representative from the Ladies' Freemasons Lodge in Caversham will also be attending, providing an opportunity for visitors to learn about women's Freemasonry and the important role it plays within the wider Masonic family.
Rarely Seen Regalia on Display
One of the highlights of the weekend will be the opportunity to see members wearing the distinctive regalia of the various Orders. Many visitors will never have seen these colourful and historic garments before, each carrying its own symbolism, traditions and history.
Members will be available throughout the weekend to explain the significance of the regalia and answer questions about the different branches of Freemasonry represented.
Freemasonry and Charity
One of the most common questions asked about Freemasonry concerns charity. Supporting charitable causes has been a cornerstone of Freemasonry for centuries and remains one of its principal aims today.
Freemasons throughout Oxfordshire and the wider United Kingdom contribute millions of pounds each year to national and local charities. Support is provided not only through financial donations, but also through volunteering, fundraising and practical assistance within local communities.
Recent years have seen Freemasons support hospices, air ambulances, food banks, youth organisations, schools, medical research, community projects and many other worthy causes. Much of this charitable work takes place quietly, without publicity, but it continues to make a significant difference to countless individuals and organisations.
Visitors attending Heritage Open Days will have the opportunity to learn more about the charitable work undertaken locally and nationally by Freemasons.
The Henley Masonic Centre
The Henley Masonic Centre has been an important part of the town's community for many years, providing a meeting place for local Masonic Lodges and Orders. While the building is regularly used by Freemasons from across Oxfordshire and Berkshire, opportunities for the public to explore the premises are relatively rare.
The Centre houses a traditional Masonic Temple, meeting rooms and social areas, all of which contribute to the charitable, educational and social activities undertaken by local Freemasons.
