Some people relax at weekends. Others take on the highest mountain in the UK for charity.

RTTV’s own Bro Peter Smith definitely falls into the second category.

In what can only be described as a serious test of endurance, determination, and probably sanity, Peter is trekking Ben Nevis in support of his chosen charity, Leukaemia UK — a cause incredibly close to his heart following the sad loss of a much-loved family member to the disease.

Rather than sitting back and accepting it, Peter decided to do something positive, challenging himself to take on one of the toughest climbs in the UK to help raise awareness and vital funds for leukaemia research and support.

And the response has been incredible. As we write this, Peter has already smashed his original fundraising target by more than 200%, with every penny raised going directly to Leukaemia UK and the life-changing work they carry out.

Despite decades of medical progress, only around half of leukaemia patients survive longer than five years after diagnosis. Leukaemia UK is committed to changing that through groundbreaking research, raising awareness, and improving diagnosis, treatment, and care for patients and families facing the disease.

Anyone who knows Peter will know he’s no stranger to walking, but Ben Nevis is a completely different challenge altogether. This isn’t just a casual stroll — it’s a demanding physical and mental challenge that will push him right to his limits.

At RTTV, we are incredibly proud of Peter for taking this on, not only in memory of someone special, but to help future families facing the same battle. His determination, generosity, and willingness to step outside his comfort zone perfectly reflect what modern Freemasonry is all about — friendship, support, community, and making a genuine difference.

We would also like to thank all the members of RTTV Lodge who have supported Peter on his fundraising journey so far.

Good luck Peter — we wish you a safe climb, a safe descent, and hopefully some decent weather at the top!
