Masks, music and a winning creation!

Saturday evening brought some unusual sights to the heart of Didcot as members of Round Table Thames Valley Lodge joined brethren, partners and friends for the Mark Masquerade Ball. Many of us also belong to Mark Masonry, so it was a chance to support another part of our Masonic community while enjoying an evening together.

Following a welcome from the compère, we settled down to our starters and a performance by a local dance company. A raffle and charity auction added to the occasion, with one particularly memorable lot: dinner for six, prepared and served in the winner’s own home by our Provincial Grand Master, Deputy Provincial Grand Master and Provincial Grand Overseer. Quite the team to have in your kitchen!

Guests had been encouraged to wear a mask of their choice, and there were some fantastic creations on display. We were especially pleased that Bro David Spruce won the prize for best mask. As a glass’s wearer, David a member of our very own lodge, had gone to considerable trouble to make his own—a little ingenuity that earned him a bottle of sparkling wine!

After the three-course meal, music kept the celebrations going until our carriages arrived at around 11pm.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening: an opportunity to support a good cause, catch up with friends from across Oxfordshire and make a few new ones along the way
